Cucumbers with Yogurt & Mint
Almost every day I eat with my energy in mind, but I don't let that be the end of it. I
take what I have learned about what works best for my body and take it one step
further in order to connect with the changing seasons! While there are many effective ways to get more energy and build your productivity,
I've found it very important to pay attention to the seasons. "But wait a minute," you say. "Aren't I supposed to be eating great food all of the
time?" Yes, you are! And after you understand what foods work best for your body, you
should then adjust to fit the seasons. Over the past few years, I've found this to be
the best way to get healthy, build my productivity, and increase my energy, and one of the best summer foods that helps with all of it is cucumbers: Cucumber ? Contains 90% water
? Relieves edema
? Effective diuretic
? Cleanses and purifies the blood
? Helps break down protein (better digestion = more energy!) Cucumbers with Yogurt & Mint 4 Servings 1 Cup Yogurt

What Wise Guys Eat
When I lived in the North End of Boston, in the nineteen eighties and nineties, I hung around a neighborhood bar from time to time, called The Corner Café. It was located on Prince Street near the corner of Salem Street. And it was indeed a neighborhood place. The owner, Richie Longo, was a neighborhood kid who grew up on Prince Street and duly attended Saint Leonard's School-as his first generation Italian-American parents had-along with all the other neighborhood kids.
Handy Home-Prepared Mixes
Pre-packaged store-bought box mixes are expensive. Have you considered homemade alternatives? Made-from-scratch mixes are healthy, cost beneficial, store well, and taste great. Often times, you're paying for the packaging of commercial "convenience" foods and you don't have any control over the additives and preservatives they contain. When making your own mixes, you tailor the ingredients, so have control over the quality and quantity.

Straight Talk from a Comfort Foodie - Simpler Times
When it was unfolding, I never thought I lived in "simpler times". That would have described pioneer days, or the world prior to the industrial revolution. Simpler times would, one day, be John-Boy and the rest of the Walton gang having dinner with Grandma and Grandpa. I was a child of the sixties, a Kennedy baby, jaded by a revolution that was counter-culture and in full regalia by the time of the Moonwalk-the "where were you?" moment of my wonder years. We watched young soldiers in bloodied Technicolor and civil riots in black and white. The world around me seemed anything but simple.
Cucumber & Pork Soup
Due to the fact that cucumber is rich in all kinds of vitamins as well as calcium, phosphorus, iron, and other sorts of minerals, it is one of the essential vegetables that we cannot live without at our dining table. The traditional Chinese medicine believes that cucumber is diuretic, it subsides swelling, improves our looks, even more, it fights tumor! No matter how you cook cucumber - stir fry, eat it uncooked, or tossed cold with sauce, they all taste good. But, have you tried cucumber soup? If you cook a cucumber soup by following the recipe below, I know you will be pleasantly surprised - hmm.. delicious!
Ingredients:
a). For step 1: 120g (4.2 oz) pork
How to Make Gooey Grits Cake
I was intrigued when I came across this unusual dessert recipe. Now, ordinarily, I wouldn't think that a dessert containing grits, of all things, would be appealing. But there was a time when I thought rice was a funny choice, too, and I'm now a huge fan of rice pudding.
Fortunate Lemon Chicken
A delicious chicken meal for you to prepare at home. The lemon sauce is fresh and tangy and somehow I always end up eating too much :-).
It takes a bit to prepare but is worth the effort. And ending the meal with a fortune cookie is great fun ? especially if you write your own fortune and make your own cookies (see below).
In Grandmas Kitchen (Part I)
One of my fondest childhood memories is being in the kitchen with my Hungarian grandmother. I loved watching her chopping vegetables, kneading dough, and leaning over bubbling pots in a kitchen that was always filled with wonderful aromas. I'd always help her after school-shelling peas or beans, scrubbing and peeling vegetables, and when I got older, helping to prepare dinner. My favorite was Friday dinner-we would always have some kind of savory soup followed by a noodle or sweet dish. I was always a sweet tooth and looked forward to egg noodles with eggs or jam, palacsinta (Hungarian crepes eaten with jam, cocoa, nuts or sweet cheese fillings), and, in the late summer, silvas gomboc (plum dumplings) topped with cinnamon sugar breadcrumbs.

Canarian Recipes for Shrove Tuesday
For the British at least, Shrove Tuesday is probably better known as Pancake Day. Those wonderful delicacies, smothered in sugar and lemon and often tossed around in village competitions. As you will see from the recipes below, the Brits certainly don't have the monopoly of this type of fare for the occasion:
