Its Time to Sing the Encryption Song - Again!
Yes, I'm wearing my encryption hat again. Why you may ask? Well I just finished reading about the newest security hole in Microsoft's latest server product. Then couple that with all the recent hacker activity, new reports from the GAO (that's the Government Accounting Office) that the government can't protect it's own computers and data much less the data WE send them, reports that computer theft is on the rise and news that the FBI is now developing a new computer "worm" (read virus) to spy on citizens, I decided to sing the encryption song again. This time I'll sing a verse about personal data encryption.

Identity Theft ? Beware of Phishing Attacks!
?Dear Bank of the West customer?, the message begins. I?ve just received an e-mail message, purportedly from the security department at the Bank of the West. The message explains that certain features of my account have been suspended due to ?suspicious activity? on my account. The message then provides a link that I can follow in order to fill out an online form confirming my identity. It?s certainly nice that Bank of the West is worried about the status of my account. There?s just one problem ? I don?t have an account at Bank of the West. In fact, I?ve never even heard of Bank of the West.

The Saga of the Annoying Adware
When we think of adware, what comes to mind are those annoying and pesky ads that pop up out of nowhere whenever we are surfing the net. Anybody who has surfed through the net has encountered those irritating pop-up adwares advertising everything from computer software down to Viagra. Adwares are some of the most derided objects in the web alongside viruses, spyware and other malicious softwares and programs. Although adwares are alleged to be the most benign form of spyware, most web users hate the blatant and bothersome way of advertising. Most are often tricked into clicking on such adwares and end up unintentionally downloading something far more serious.

Crack The Code - Thats A Direct Challenge
I Challenge You To Crack The Code
-------------------------------------
I had quite an interesting experience recently. I was hired
by a company to perform a vulnerability assessment and
penetration test on their network. During the initial
meeting, one of the key technical staff presented me with a
challenge; He handed over the NTLM hash of the domain
Administrator account and challenged me to decipher it.
He explained that the complexity and length of the password
would prevent me from deciphering it during the time allotted
for the project. He was actually quite confident in my
impending failure.

Internet/Network Security
Abstract
Homogeneous symmetries and congestion control have garnered limited interest from both cryptographers and computational biologists in the last several years [1]. In fact, few steganographers would disagree with the investigation of spreadsheets. Our focus in this work is not on whether write-back caches and evolutionary programming [13] can cooperate to achieve this intent, but rather on exploring an analysis of Markov models (Eale).
Be Aware of Phishing Scams!
If you use emails actively in your communication, you must have received various messages claiming to be from Ebay, Paypal and a number of banks. A recent email as if from U.S. Bank Corporation that I received contains the subject "U.S. Bank Fraud Verification Process" and in the body of the mail it says "We recently reviewed your account, and suspect that your U.S. Bank Internet Banking account may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. Protecting the security of your account and of the U.S. Bank network is our primary concern. Therefore, as a preventative measure, we have temporarily limited access to sensitive account features. To restore your account access, please take the following steps to ensure that your account has not been compromised:". It continues with a link to a webpage, which looks very similar to original web page of the bank.

Another Fine Mess!
I'm in the Anti-Spyware business, and I'm doing a lot of advertising to promote my website, but here I am online and on the phone, giving my personal information to.....who? Strangers
basically, Geez! The majority of identity thefts occur thru contractors employing people in entry-level jobs that have not
been properly screened. Not even Hackers,Phishers or Dumpster Divers account for as many! The ideal
location for a Identity stealer would be in a out sourced agency that fails to use adequate screening processes.
Why Corporations Need to Worry About Phishing
Phishing is a relatively new form of online fraud that focuses on fooling the victim into providing sensitive financial or personal information to a bogus website that bears a significant resemblance to a tried and true online brand. Typically, the victim provides information into a form on the imposter site, which then relays the information to the fraudster.
Secrets On Security: A Gentle Introduction To Cryptography
Let us take the example of scrambling an egg. First, crack the shell, pour the contents into a bowl and beat the contents vigorously until you achieved the needed result - well, a scrambled egg. This action of mixing the molecules of the egg is encryption. Since the molecules are mixed-up, we say the egg has achieved a higher state of entropy (state of randomness). To return the scrambled egg to its original form (including uncracking the shell) is decryption. Impossible?
